Newport Velo is a “Youth Focused Cycle Club” based at the Wales National Velodrome (Newport)

A youth cycling club for riders and parents to enjoy cycling at all levels.

The Club has three main weekly events –

Saturday Youth Drop In sessions at the Newport Velodrome 

(These sessions are managed by Newport Velodrome (NewportLive) and run with volunteer coaches)

Saturday 09.30-12.00 for Ages 10-16 (Check these are running, sometimes cancelled due to race events)

Bikes can be hired via the Velodrome reception.

Children are required to have completed the Youth Beginners Course which runs on a Monday evening between 5.00 – 6.30 over 3/4 weeks. On completion of the course students will be given a Cycle Pass, please bring this to your first drop in session or you should speak to the Cycle Development Officer via Newport Velodrome reception to gain agreement to attend in advance of attending Saturday Youth Drop In sessions eg demonstrate experience/safe riding from club/cluster/taster sessions.

Rides subject to weather and racing/events- rides are typically (30-60 miles/pace 15-17mph with cafe stop)

No one gets left behind!

Younger riders are expected to be accompanied by a riding adult

Our vision is to promote youth cycling at all levels and abilities to allow children to enjoy the sport of cycling and promote self-confidence and mutual respect.

  • History

The club was started in 2005 to allow children to have their own youth-only club and sessions, as senior clubs were not receptive to meeting the needs of young riders.

Membership is available from 10-18.
